Robert James “Bob” Juneau of the Blackfeet Nation passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Saint Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula.

Bob was born on March 13, 1947 in Browning (MT), the fourth of eight children to Margie (Bird) and Edmond “Snackery” Juneau. Bob graduated from Browning High School and attended Northern Montana College on a basketball scholarship. He was drafted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam until honorably discharged with honors in 1970.

Bob married Linda Matt Juneau and they lived in Oakland (CA), Denver (CO), and Browning (MT) with their three sons. Bob worked in a number of occupations as a line foreman, and federal special assistant at San Francisco Regional Office, Director for Blackfeet Natural Resources Department, and Director- Blackfeet Residence Organization.

A lifelong humanitarian concerned about poverty and human rights, he spent his life’s work helping others. In his efforts, he met with congressional leaders, tribal officials, and state legislatures to improve housing, quality of life, and tribal enrollment issues. Bob was the author of “The Sacred Buffalo Vision,” and co-editor of two magazines: “Through the Eyes of an Indian,” and “The Blackfeet Patriot.” A lifelong learner, he continued his education 2003-2005 at the University of Montana.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, brothers Edmond Juneau, Wayne Juneau, Dennis Juneau, and Michael Juneau, and sister Jerelyn (Juneau) Glatzmier. He is survived by his wife Linda Matt Juneau, sons: Steven (Jodi) Juneau, Edmond Juneau, and Robert Charles Juneau. Grandchildren Kristin Juneau, Whitney (Juneau) Soto, Jeffrey Juneau, Trevor Hawkins, Jordan Jarvey, Howard Juneau, and Mariah Juneau; and great granddaughter Maxwell Soto.

Rosary services will be held on Wednesday, April 24 at 7 p.m. at the stick game arbor; and funeral mass on Thursday, April 25 at 11:00 a.m. at the Little Flower Parish in Browning (MT). Pallbearers are Ron Rides At The Door, Howard Juneau, Jordan Jarvey, Barbara Juneau, Benjamin Juneau, Ron Juneau, John Juneau, and Clayton Juneau.
