Polson – Donna Mary Romsa Houle, known as “Chicken” to many, age 66, began her journey with the Creator on March 17, 2018.  Born in Great Falls, MT, on October 3, 1951, to Benny and Mary Romsa.  She was the only girl amongst their five children; she was very strong and very protected.

Chicken grew up in Great Falls and attended Ursuline Academy and Great Falls Central, graduating in 1970.  In 1970 she attended Upward Bound in Missoula, MT, where she met the love of her life, Herbert “Rick” Lozeau.  That is when she decided to make the Flathead Reservation her home.  She loved the majestic Mission Mountains.  In 1971 their daughter was born and she remained until early 1974.  Returning to Great Falls for a bried period, she married Gaylord “Aut” Houle, whom she had a son with in 1975.  Yet she could not ignore her heart telling her she belonged in Ronan where she raised her children.  She was one of the first set of students to attend the Salish Kootenai College, with classes eing held in the old Ronan Elementary School.  She received her degree in computer science (AAS) in  1988.

She did many things over the years to support her family, including cleaning houses, telephone operator, and bartender to name a few.  She loved to shoot pool; especially when she could beat Rick in a good game at the old Training Room Bar in Ronan, showing up in her leather jacket, 501 blue jeans, and fire fighting boots ready to play!  She also loved to just “cruise” around, often looking for a passenger to enjoy the ride with her.

Donna spent the last few years of her life being cared for wonderfully by her beautiful granddaughter Kristina, whom she referred to as her “Face”, watching and waiting for each new great grandchild to be born and laid in her arms.

Donna was preceded in death by her father Benny; the love of her life Rick; and her nephew Michael.  She is survived by her mother Mary; brothers Rodger, Larry (Traci), David (Carol), Danny (Julie), daughter Lonnie (Lawrence) Mays, son Leroy Jesse Houle; grandchildren Kristina Mays, Lawrence Mays Jr., Deja Deserley, and Khaila Houle; six great grandchildren; numerous “cuzzins”, nieces, and nephews; sister Zana McDonald and her bountiful friends.  She was a very unique and loving person who touched the lives of many.

Mass was held March 22, 2018, in St. Ignatius,  with services under the direction of Foster Funeral Home & Crematory.
