Dixon – Sybil Rebecca Hawkins Butler, 73, passed away at her home March 18, 2018.  Born August 20, 1944, in Santa Rosa, CA, to Owen Burrell Hawkins and Julia Matt, she was a proud member of the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes.   She was raised in Dixon and California, went to Dixon School and graduated from high school.  She graduated from beautician school in Portland, Oregon.

In 1965 she married Joseph Butler.  She worked as a sawyer and cut post and poles.  She later worked in construction and fire fighting.  She was one of the first hot shot miff crews.  After fire seasons she was buyer/seller of morrel mushrooms.  Sybil’s hobbies included reading, working outside doing yardwork and gardening, floating the Dixon River, and family outings.  

She is preeded in death by her grandparents, parents, sisters, brothers, aunts and uncles, two children, and multiple grandchildren.  She is survived by too many family members to count.

Memorial services were held March 23rd at 11:00 am at the Longhouse in St. Ignatius under the direction of Foster Funeral Home & Crematory.
