Ann Harwood Obituary

Ann Harwood, Ed.D. A Life of Learning and Unceasing Pursuit

September 6, 1946 - June 5, 2026.

Ann Harwood, a passionate lifelong learner, photographer, world traveler, and adventurous spirit, passed away peacefully in Ronan, Montana on June 5, 2026.

Born in Harriman, Tennessee, Ann was raised in Lakeland, Florida.  Ann dedicated her life to the pursuit of knowledge and self-improvement, believing firmly that education could unlock life’s true purpose. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising at Florida State University in 1968 and her MS in Business at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, in 1976.  After a long career as a dedicated professional in public relations and marketing, Ann returned to school later in life, earning her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership from the University of Montana at age 60. This achievement was a profound source of pride, reflecting her conviction that one must always keep striving for "Brightness of the Future", a motto she had lived by since learning it in a seminar in the 1980s.

Ann was known for her vibrant presence and her comfort in striking up conversations with anyone.  Ordained in her fifties as an interfaith minister, Ann was a committed seeker who tirelessly explored many philosophies, always looking for the keys to a fulfilling life.

She was preceded in death by her parents William W. and Kitty P. Harwood, and by her brother, William W. Harwood, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Ashley Maynard, two nephews, and a legacy of friends who appreciated her unique approach to life. Her pursuit of knowledge of all kinds was a testament to the human desire for meaning. May she rest in peace with love and satisfaction, having completed her lifelong search.
