Anthony “Nugget” Whiteman Runs Him (Éhta Báashchiinaash – Almost A Whiteman) was born in Hardin, Montana at the Bighorn Memorial Hospital, on December 30th, 1994, to Tommy Whiteman Runs Him and Geri Stewart. He is a member of the Ties the Bundle clan and Child of the Big Lodge clan. When he was less than a year old, his hair had golden brown tips. As he got a few years older, his hair got darker, but there was one small spot that stayed gold. His aunt Rosie called the spot his golden nugget. Eventually, “golden” dropped off and everyone just called him “Nugget.” He was raised by his “Papa” and “Mama,” Buddy and Lavonne Tall Bear. His aunts Neva and Rosie pitched in, often travelling to Oklahoma to spend time with family. He attended elementary school in Lodge Grass, MT until sixth grade and CS Porter for a year. Then returned home to Lodge Grass to finish Junior High. He attended Hardin High School, where he graduated with Honors and National Honors Society recognition in 2013. That Fall, he briefly attended the University of Montana before moving on to attend Salish Kootenai College. There he received his Associate’s Degree in Business Management and Certificate in Grants Management.
In his young life, he had many adventures and enjoyed life to the fullest, gaining friends and family on his travels and places he chose to move camp. Going to powwows, singing, running, basketball coaching and firefighting were a few of his favorite past times. He loved to read, always acquiring new knowledge. He excelled in academics and sports and lived a sober lifestyle, following his grandparent’s way of life. He described himself as orderly and versatile.
For a short time, he resided in Oklahoma while firefighting. During that time, he had a son, Honor Moses, named after Moses “Buddy.” In 2019 he met Shandiin “Sisi” M. Pete, describing his love for her as something out of a movie. They started their life together in Arlee, MT along with her two sons Jep and Momo Inmee, whom he loved as his own. In 2022 they got married and had two children, Kloli and ?ošim.
His joy of being in the mountains and spending time with his community showed in the work he pursued. He held many titles, including Squad Boss, Forestry Technician, Senior Fire Engine Operator, Grant Manager, and Basketball Coach. His friendly demeanor made it easy to work with and he practiced instilling a sense of community in all he did. He was a friend and colleague to those at CSKT Division of Fire, Arlee Schools, Bitterroot National Forest, and BIA Wildland Fire (Crow Agency, MT).
