**In Loving Memory of Barbara Parsons **
November 7, 1933 – June 24, 2026

Barbara Parsons, lovingly known to many as “Wind Woman,” began her journey on November 7, 1933, in Hot Springs, South Dakota, and peacefully walked on from this life on June 24, 2026, in Ronan, Montana, at the age of 92.

Barbara’s life was one marked by perseverance, sacrifice, love, and remarkable strength. Her early years were not without hardship. Like many of her generation, she faced challenges from childhood onward that would have broken lesser spirits. Yet through every struggle, every loss, and every chapter of uncertainty, Barbara carried herself with grace, dignity, and an unwavering devotion to those she loved.

She spent much of her childhood in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where she began to cultivate the talents and determination that would define her life. Blessed with an extraordinary singing voice that could stop people in their tracks, Barbara was offered a contract with Junior Metropolitan Opera. It was a rare opportunity and a testament to her incredible gift. Yet when faced with the choice between pursuing a musical career and building a life with the man she loved, she chose family. In her seventies, Barbara also became a published author, and her three books can be found on Amazon. Another remarkable milestone in Barbara’s life.

Barbara met her first husband, Zane Hamm, in Hot Springs, South Dakota. Zane worked as a salesman for Nabisco, and together they shared an epic love story filled with passion, hope, and dreams. Like many great love stories, theirs would eventually be touched by tragedy. Still, from that love grew a family legacy that would span generations.

Barbara was the very definition of elegance and class. She was a gifted cook whose meals brought people together and whose gatherings became legendary among friends and family. Her parties were talked about throughout town, but it was never the food or decorations alone that made them memorable; II was Barbara’s ability to make every person feel welcome, valued, and loved.

Above all else, Barbara loved her family fiercely. She was the heart of countless holidays, birthdays, reunions, and celebrations. She was the grandmother whose hugs could heal a wounded spirit, the mother who never stopped believing in her children, and the matriarch who tirelessly worked to keep her family connected through both joyful and difficult times.

Barbara took immense pride in her Ponca heritage, her beautiful family, and the gift of her voice. Though life asked much of her and often tested her strength, she continued to give of herself freely, offering love, wisdom, laughter, and support to generations who were fortunate enough to know her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Vivian Parsons; her brothers, Marvin and Michael Parsons; her beloved grandson, Dalton Aschinger; and all three of her husbands, Zane Hamm, Robert Horine, and Donald Aschinger.

She leaves behind a family that stands as a living testament to the life she built and the love she shared: her children, Jeff and Nisa Hamm; John and Daya Horine; Lora and Kerry Poirier; Teresa and Steve Wheeler; Maura Horine; and Lance and Stacy Aschinger.

She is also survived by her grandchildren: JP PrettyBull, Justin, Josh, Abby, Micky, Chad, Mariah, Amanda, Jenna, Krystal, Barbara, Ashley, Aaron, Shelby, Austin, and Colton; along with 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward pieces of her spirit and legacy.

Barbara’s life cannot be measured simply by years lived, but by lives touched. She was the woman who always found a way to pull her family together. She created traditions, nurtured connections, and filled ordinary moments with extraordinary love. Her strength became the foundation upon which generations would stand.

Thank you, Wind Woman, for sharing your beautiful voice, your wisdom, your resilience, and your boundless love. Thank you for the 92 years you spent building a legacy of family, culture, perseverance, and grace.
