Betty Weaselhead Obituary

Betty June Weaselhead, 72, passed away on May 22, 2024 at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born on June 26, 1951 at Holy Family Hospital in St. Ignatius, Montana to Joseph "Cowboy" Weaselhead and Madeline Barnaby. She spent her youth on the Flathead Indian Reservation and attended school at St. Ignatius and Arlee then later went to University of Montana.

Betty married Drew Hendrickson and had 2 sons together. After that marriage ended with Drew, she married Dave Van Haverback. She had numerous jobs throughout her life which included, firefighting, tree planting, and an excursion in Valdez working on a fishing boat. Betty worked many years at Head Start and she was currently working at the Elders Program for CSKT.

Betty always had a sparkle in her eyes. This sparkle lit up all places she visited. From a family event to a pool game, you knew Betty was there as she had an infectious laugh; which she shared unconditionally.  Betty loved to take “cruises” from friend cruises, river cruises, lake cruises, and booze cruises. If you were lucky enough to accompany her on one, you were guaranteed a good time! Betty was always looking for an adventure, and those adventures brought many people and new friends into her life. She was an advocate for many, from children to elders. Many times Betty was told “You can’t do that” in her various positions. Of course, Betty did what she felt what needed to be done to get others what they needed. Sometimes those who argued, regretted their attempt at slowing Betty down.

Betty loved her boys: Shane and Chad. They were her heart, and the grandchildren and great grandchildren they gave Betty. This offered Betty to open her heart even more. Betty’s heart held space for all her family and friends, and she made sure everyone knew that fact.

Betty is preceded in death by her son; Chad J. Hendrickson; grandson: Chad Hendrickson; siblings: Francis “Sheepy,” Joann “Girlie,” Estella “Stella,” John, Allen, Gerald, Violet, Marvin and Madeline “Pepples” Weaselhead.

She is survived by her son: Shane (Karen) Hendrickson, grandchildren: Casie Schwiwdt, Kalten Hendrickson, Keaten Hendrickson, Allyssa Finley, Julio Hendrickson, Daniel Purtida, Chad Hendrickson; great grandkids: Montala “Grace” Tainon, Emma & Lucienne; siblings: Ron Weaselhead, Joe “Dusty” (Rita) Weaselhead, Arnold (Verna) Weaselhead, Dalon (Susan) Weaselhead, & Anthony Weaselhead.
