Charles Morigeau Obituary

Charles “Charlie” Louis Morigeau passed away at his home, surrounded by his loved ones on April 06, 2024 at the age of 75.

Charlie was born to Jack and Genevieve Morigeau on August 29, 1948 in St. Ignatius, Montana. He was the great-great-great grandson of Chief Charlo and was named after his uncle PFC Louis Charles Charlo, who was one of the first flag barrier on Mount Surbachi on Iwo Jima. He grew up in the Dixon/Hot Springs area before raising his family in St. Ignatius. Charlie attended school at both Dixon and Hot Springs, and graduated a Dixon Demon. As a young man Charlie enlist in the United States Marine and served a tour in the Vietnam War.  He loved creating his dance regalia and would showcase it at the Annual Veterans Pow-wow.

Charlie worked in the woods as a post and poler, and then worked for the people in various capacities. He was a dispatcher, tribal police, game warden, prosecutor, tribal defender, and also a judge. He served the people on Tribal Council for four years.  In his final days he was a dedicated tribal health transporter and enjoyed this job until the very end. Charlie was always there for the people, regardless of the situation.

Charlie’s hobbies revolved around his wife, children, and grandchildren. Whether that included their work, sports, and school activities. There wasn’t a more proud or dedicated Father or Papa. Charlie also loved being in the woods whenever the opportunity arose and in his younger years he hiked and explored the Mission Mountains. He knew every trail and path. Charlie was an avid collector of knives, guns and scarves.

He married Sandra Matt and later divorced and, in this union, brought forth three children. He then married Sally Addison (whom preceded him in death) and they had one son together. Charlie then met Jackie Spidel and they had four sons.

Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Genevieve (Charlo) Morigeau; siblings Denise Covington and Jacque Morigeau, and son Mike Morigeau.

Charlie is survived by: his Wife Jackie Spidel; Children Genevieve (Dustin) Gatch, Yolanda “Lana”(Chuck) Page, Charles, Jeremiah (Annie), Levi (Monica), Al, and Erich (Fish); Grandchildren: Kyle, Tyler, Kobe, Jacob, Jaeleigh, Jordan, Kooper, Kason, Erich, Emily, Isaac, Olivia, Ava, grand fur babies; Great-Grandchildren TySaius and TyZayah; Siblings Tonie Durrett, Stella Morigeau, Audie (Susan) Morigeau and Victor Morigeau.  Charlie will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and distant relatives and friends.

Services were held at the St. Ignatius Long House on April, 8, 2024 at 10:00. Donations can be made in Charlie’s name to the Mission Valley Honor Guard.
