Evelyn L. Hernandez

Evelyn “Buffalo Woman” Hernandez, 74, passed away at Clark Fork Valley Hospital on November 29, 2023. Evelyn was born September 13, 1949 in St. Ignatius, MT to Carmen and Daisy Hernandez. Evelyn grew up in Dixon, MT and attended school there her whole life. She graduated from Dixon in 1968. Later in life she went back to school in her 50’s and received her A.A. double Bachelors and went on to receive her master’s degree. Her undergrad was all at Salish Kootenai College and her master’s program was at Walla Wallla. Evelyn had her degree in chemical dependency and masters in Social work. She worked at San mountain sports for some years, at SKC and crime victim advocate and helped out at Two Eagle to help students. Evelyn enjoyed dancing at Pow Wows, gardening, spending time with her kids, grandkids and socializing.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her mom and dad, brothers and sisters, her daughter Shirley, adopted son/ grandson SunDance Hernandez and the love of her life Francis.

Evelyn is survived by her brothers Ron Hernandez, John Hernandez, Sisters Patty Widner, Agnes GunHammer, sons, Loren Hernandez, Ronald Shane Adams, Joel Adams, Daughter Shonna Adams and her adopted sons/ grandchildren Steven Hernandez, Eli Dubios, Daughter/ Grandchild Sirraya Swank, 23 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Evelyn’s wake will start Dec. 1, 2023 at the Longhouse (St. Ignatius, MT) with a Rosary at 8 pm. Catholic service 11 am at the longhouse and burial to follow. Meal at longhouse following burial.
