Gerald Peter (Vaile) Sellars of East Glacier, MT. passed away on April 30, 2023.
Peter was born on August 6, 1946 in Browning, MT.
His biological parents were Cy Vaile and Pear Night Gun.
He was later taken by his aunt and uncle, Tom & Carm Sellars, which is why he used the name Sellars.
He attended the Blackfeet Boarding School from the first grade to the eighth grade. Although there was a lot of abuse at the boarding school, he had a lot of happy times there with his classmates. They would build campfires, playing and making coffee 'in the brush' as he called it. This is why he wanted his ashes scattered in his childhood playground.
He attended the Chilocco Indian High School in Chilocco, OK for 3 years. He then came back to Browning, MT, where he attended Browning High School for one year, his senior year. He then graduated from Browning High School in 1966.
He entered the Army during the Viet Nam Era. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in the ground operations against hostile forces during the period of April, 1969 to January, 1970. He was with the Screaming Eagles Division of the 101st Airborne Division in Viet Nam, He was honorably discharged from the Army.
He worked for the Blackfeet Tribal Court as a juvenile officer and Tribal Judge and he did some pro bono work.
He is survived by his wife, March Lorraine Upham of East Glacier who was also a graduate of Browning High School in 1966.
Peter loved golf, football, and boxing.
He is also survived by his son, Brandon Kittson (Angel) and their children, Hazel and Shiloh. And many other relatives.
Peter will be missed.
