On March 9, 2026, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ opened the gates of eternal life and welcomed home Hal Hosford Folts. Hal was 89 years old.
Hal now joins in heaven his parents Myron and Janet, beloved aunts and uncles, cousins, a grandchild, and many cherished pets who preceded him in passing. Those who knew Hal take comfort in the promise of eternal life and the peace that comes from knowing he now rests in the presence of the Lord.
Born January 14, 1937, Hal lived a full and active life, guided by faith, family, and a love for the simple joys of the world around him. He was a devoted father to four children and a caring stepfather to four more. His family grew across generations, and he was blessed to be a grandfather of sixteen, a great-grandfather of fourteen, and a great-great-grandfather of four.
Hal proudly served his country with honor in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958. Following his military service, he worked throughout his life before retiring at the age of 70.
Hal found joy in many pursuits. He loved dancing, spending time outdoors, camping, fishing, enjoying sports, and simply taking to the open road. In retirement he devoted more time to one of his greatest passions—his beloved Hudson automobiles, especially his prized 1949 Hudson convertible.
Hal was an active member of the Mission Valley Cruisers car club, where he became affectionately known as "Hudson Hal." His enthusiasm for classic cars and the friendships he formed through the club brought him great happiness in his later years.
In the final chapter of his life, Hal was lovingly cared for by his wife, Kathie, who ensured he remained comfortable, happy, and surrounded by love.
Hal is survived by his beloved wife, Kathie Folts, whom he married in 1993; and by his sister, Georgan Proudfoot of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
He is also survived by his children from his first marriage with Carrie Simons/Folts 1960-1992 passed in 2011:
Steven Folts and wife Kristy of Cleveland, Tennessee, and their children Carrie, Brook, Jade, and Alexis, along with three grandchildren;
Shelle Egbert and husband Phil of Bozeman, Montana, and their children Jessica and Daniel, along with four grandchildren;
Todd Folts and wife Tricia of Naples, Italy, and their children Zane and Aaron;
Robi Folts and wife Lisa of Florence, Montana, and their children Keetra and Kelley.
Hal is also survived by his stepchildren:
Mother Carrie Simons/Folts -
Merry Montoya of Richland, Washington, whose children are Micki and Syrena. Merry's son Jason preceded Hal in death in 2017. Merry's family includes seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Mother Kathie Folts -
Jessica Dougherty-McMichael and husband Blake of Missoula, Montana;
Cassidy Seymour and husband Chris of Bozeman, Montana;
Nicholas McMichael and wife Taylor of Bozeman, Montana, and his three children;
Hal's life was rich with family, faith, friendship, and the many blessings the Lord placed along his path. Though he will be deeply missed by those who loved him, his family rejoices in the promise of reunion in God's eternal kingdom. A memorial service will be scheduled later this summer.
"Well done, good and faithful servant... enter into the joy of your Lord." - Matthew
