A Celebration of life for Jesse J Heavyrunner will be held on Tuesday August 17, 2012 at the new Foster Funeral Home located at the (Old Smoke Shack west of the Casino)Browning, MT.
Jesse passed away at the age of 91 at his home located On Finely Road, Browning, MT on August 11, 2021 due to a stroke.
He was born 2/26/1930 at the family home located on Cut Bank Creek. He grew up on the Blackfeet Reservation and at the young age of 17 he joined the Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton, California which during his 8 years he had fought in the Korean War. After serving in the Marines as a Sea Going Marine, and as a Staff Sergeant he returned to Browning starting a saw mill on his land located on Boarding School Road. He was offered a job working has a logger for St. Regis paper company out of Libby, MT. he retired from there and returned to Browning. To ranch, and started Heavyrunner Logging. He logged up in the St. Mary's area then finally retiring from logging and then became a Postal Carrier for awhile then again retiring. He continued to work his ranch raising cows and pigs. He also became the Commander of the Blackfeet Warrior Society, he was also on the Glacier Peaks Casino Board and later joined the Men's Honorary Society. At the age of 90 is when he decided to really retire. He always kept busy which kept him going. He enjoyed family get togethers picnics, camping, holidays and just having his grandkids around made his day.
His surviving children Steven, Denise (Rick), William, Keith (Bessie), Lisa, Earl (Hope), all of Browning and Marsha Lamb, of Everett, WA, Sisters Rose (Ken) Guardipee of El Cajon, Calif., and Violet Higgins of Browning. He has 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren 2 great great grandchild.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents James and Theresa (Middle Rider) Heavy Runner; wife Marlene Juneau Heavyrunner; son Jesse Jr. and an infant daughter; granddaughter Kayleeann and grandson Steven Jr. brothers Wilbur and Marvin Heavy Runner; sisters Mildred Pepion; Eleanor Brock; grandparents Heavy Runner and Petrified Rock, Levi Middle Rider and Rosie Big Beaver.
