John Burland Obituary

John Glenn Burland was born February 20, 1962, to the late Loretta (Blood) and Francis (Frenchy) Burland in Ronan, Montana. He was the youngest of their four children. He passed away unexpectedly on November 28, 2023.

John was a proud member of the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes. He graduated from Arlee High School in 1980 and attended the Billings Vo-Tech for Auto Body and Carpentry. His early life was spent working with his brothers and dad on cars, motorcycles, and anything with a motor. Together, they owned a race car, had annual Sanders County Fair demolition derby entries, and a used car business.

In 1989, John married Kathy Neiss and became an instant dad to her daughters Amanda and Janelle, whom he found very special. They had one daughter, Holly. John and Kathy divorced in 1993, and he raised Holly as a single father with his world revolving around her to ensure her every need and want was met.

John worked at CS&KT Housing Authority for four years and at Mission Valley Power as a meter reader for over 30 years. His career as a meter reader brought him, his brothers, nephews, and friends an assortment of treasures he would find for sale on his route. He loved to wheel and deal.

To this day, John thoroughly enjoyed all things cars – especially race cars. Every year, he would plan the itinerary for Rich & Kelly and his nephews, Dom and Trae, to make an NHRA Drag Racing trip to Las Vegas and for John to see Brittany Force.

John will be remembered for his sense of humor, point-blank opinions, dislike for the Griz, and his arm-wrestling championships with trophies as proof. He was also an avid dog lover and always had a couple of dogs by his side down by the river.

John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughters Holly, Janelle (Gilberto) Palacios, and Amanda (Troy) Odegard, and five grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Richard (Kelly) Burland and David (Amy) Burland, and his sister Lawna Burland, nephews Trae and Dominic Burland, and nieces Chelsey Garfield (Chevy Thomas), Shannon (Shane) Cummins, and Sarah Burland (Gary Frankforter).
