Juanita Sloss age 69, passed away July 29, 2024 of an undisclosed illness. Juanita was the daughter of Benny and Kathryn Running Rabbit Sloss, (Both deceased). Her mother, Katheryn Running Rabbit Sloss is Blackfeet and her father, Benny Sloss is a member of the Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma. Juanita’s maternal grandparents were Thomas Running Rabbit and Josephine Flattail Running Rabbit and great-grandparents, Annie Running Crane Flattail and Phillip Flattail. Her paternal grandparents are unknown at this time.
Juanita was raised on the Blackfeet Reservation and attended school in Cut Bank, Montana where she graduated from high school and later received her undergrad degree from Carroll College and later her MEd in Special Education. Jaunita, is survived by a brother, William Sloss and a niece, Jasmine McAuley. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother John Sloss and Uncle, Melvin Running Rabbit and several relatives.
She married to Gordon Jackson and later divorced. During this time, she taught school in Pryor, Montana for several years and for Browning Public Schools for many more years until her health prevented her from continuing.
Juanita was a traditional dancer and owned many beautiful outfits including a buckskin dress. She traveled and danced throughout Montana with her mother who also danced and placed several times. She made many friends though out her travels on pow wows, she traveled through out the United States and Canada with her mother, Christine, you could always see Jaunita dancing with her red dress and black hat, tall and beautiful.
Services will be held on August 13, 2024 @ 2:00 pm, at the Little Flower Parish, with burial at the Mission, Two Medicine Cemetery. With a feed to follow. (TBA).
