St Ignatius, Montana - Lois Mae Cone, went to be with the Lord, July 31, 2024. Lois died at the age of 96, from health complications after a life well lived.
Born in Rome, Ohio on March 23, 1928 to Ivan and Alpha (Castel) Hummell, she was raised and educated in Ohio.
Lois served as postmaster at Rock Creek Station, Ohio. In Fort Lauderdale, Florida she enjoyed a position as Girl Friday, She and her husband Russell served 10 years as foster parents to over 50 infants, caring for them from birth until adoption.
After experimenting as a newspaper correspondent in Ohio, she began her career as a freelance writer for the National Church Synagogue Library Association's national news letter, serving 11 years as resident columnist. She began her profession as church librarian under protest, but it became her passion. During the later part of her life she also wrote for the Syndicated Internet Churchmouse Publication.
Through her CSLA column, she was instrumental in helping establish a number of church libraries worldwide.
Lois is survived by her daughter Leta (Roy) Sasser, grand children Tania (Robert) Bachman, their children Conner and Jacob. James Sasser III, LeAnne SasserHaeless (Travis) and children Alissa, Elijah, Wyatt and Emalia. Christopher (Sequoia) Sasser and their children Anteries, Athena, Livana and Lillian. Also her son David (Mary) Cone and son Thomas Hiles.
It is her prayer that their church library work will continue to grow.
