Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend, Maria Lena (Kennedy) Cassidy, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, April 16, 2021 at the age of 78. She will be lovingly remembered by so many.
She is survived by her daughters; Sharyl (John) Prescott, Donna (Alvin) YellowOwl, And Cola (Dave) Watson. Twelve grandchildren, and thirty one great-grandchildren; her sisters; Myna McDonald & (Rick Reagan), Avalon (Blue Man) Hall, Delores Stafford, Jo Ann (Chuck) Tellier, and brother Lawrence "Lane" (Leta) Kennedy, and numerous relatives and friends.
Lena is preceded in death by her spouse Kenny Cassidy, her parents Medora Isabell Harwood Guardipee, & Edward "Porky", Lawrence "Bud" Kennedy, sister Bonnie Kennedy, and sister Patty Lee Kennedy.
Lena was born in Browning Montana to the late, Lawrence "Bud" Kennedy and parents Isabell Harwood Guardipee & (Edward "Porky") on September 4, 1942.
Raised on the ranch at Fisher Flats and Two Medicine, she attended Cut Bank boarding school from grade one through grade eight, and Chemawa Indian School in Salem Oregon during her high school years.
After starting her family, she moved to California, where she resided until 1974, at which time she moved back home to be closer to her family. Lena very much enjoyed the outdoors where she spent most of her summers planting flowers, and tinkering in her yard. She especially looked forward to her annual family campouts. She enjoyed BINGO, and gaming, but her biggest joy was beating her grandchildren at the game♦️31 ♣️.
The Rosary will be recited on Wednesday April 21, 2021. Dinner will be served at 5:30 pm with the rosary beginning at 7:00 PM.
Mass will be celebrated on Thursday April 22, 2021 at 11:00 am. Little Flower Parish - Browning, MT with Fr. Ed Kohler, Celebrant.
Pallbearers will be Josh Monroe, John Monroe, Ricky Gobert, Ed Gobert, Tim McDonald, Kyle Coursey, and Josh Embody. Honorary Pallbearers are her friends and family.
She will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in Valier. Memorials may be made to your local Hospice Center.
