Melvin Gardipee Obituary

Melvin "Sonny" Gardipee passed away peacefully at his home on February 9, 2024. He was born January 18, 1952 in Great Falls, MT to Madeline Mosney and Joseph Gardipee and was one of eleven children. Sonny was a member of the Chippewa-Cree reservation in Rocky Boy and beyond a proud member he was!!! You would hear him say "Rocky Boy" a lot! Sonny was blessed with five beautiful girls! His first wife, Sylvia, gave birth to his first four girls: Barbara, Maria, Melissa, and Valerie. When Sonny married his second wife, Jana, he was blessed once again with his "baby" Heather. Sonny had 23 or 26 grandkis, 20 great-grandkids, and many nieces and nephews. He loved them all and would greet them with his fighting pose.

What mattered most to him was family, and he spent his days visiting everyone. Whether walking around or driving around, you would rarely catch him alone for he almost always had a daughter, grandbaby, sister, brother, niece, nephew, cousin, or friend with him! When his mom and dad were alive, he visited them almost every day. Everyone knew when Sonny came through the door. The first place he would head to was the refrigerator to get a snack to go along with his visit! He also visitied his friends daily, whether they were 2 or 92 and would give them his last dollar if needed. He was very friendly, in a cranky way! He had lifelong friends that were tight and tough crew who fought with each other and for eachother. If you were considered a friend, a handshake was all it took to make peace. Sonny loved to laugh and would laugh until he cried happy tears! When he talked about his mom, dad, daughtet Melissa "Miss Miss", and many more firiends and family who proceeded him in death, the tears would stream down his cheeks straight to his heart and touch his soul for he yearned to be with them. You did it Sonny! The pain, sadness, loneliness, hard times, depression, fear, and worry is over for you, for you have ran the race on earth and victory is now on your side! Heaven is your forever home with the poeple you have forever loved! We already miss you and want to thank you for keeping all of us in your life and loving us and showing up for a visit, a birthday, a holiday! If you were invited, you wouldn't miss it for he world. Your love was real and we are going to struggle to not see you at our kitchen table and in our cupboards and refrigerators! We know you are in heaven with the family and friends you so deeply love and our heavenly Father who created and save you. So as we say Goodbye Sonny, we truly are happy for you. When you see us cry for you on any given night or day, please send the Holy Spirit our way and remind us we will all be together again some day.
