November 7, 1944 – February 10, 2026
Robert J. Hout, 81, of Pablo, Montana, passed away peacefully in his home on
February 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Miles City, Montana,
Robert moved to Polson as a young child, where he worked alongside his family on
his father’s ranch. The values of hard work and dedication instilled in him early in
life stayed with him throughout his years.
As a young man, Robert joined the military as a combat medic and subsequently
worked for 30 years at Plum Creek Lumber Mill. Throughout his career, he became
known for his tireless work ethic, strength, and reliability. Along with his twin brother,
Ron, Robert was once considered one of the toughest men and hardest workers in
Mission Valley. He often walked the railroad tracks in knee-deep snow to get to
work, refusing to miss a single day. His commitment to his work, even in the
harshest of conditions, was a testament to his character and determination.
Robert never looked away from what mattered most—a day's work, a good fight, or
a cold Budweiser. He embraced the simple pleasures of life with unwavering
dedication and always took the path less traveled.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hout Sr.; his mother, Nelda
Kennedy; his brother, Ronald Hout Sr.; his sister, Patsy; and his loving wife of 50
years, Bonnie Hout. He is survived by his brothers, Charlie Hout and Melvin Hout,
and his sister, Caroll Matt. Robert also leaves behind six children: Jennifer, Joe,
Ann, David, Suzy, and Sam, as well as many extended family members and friends
who will miss him dearly. His family is comforted to know that he has reunited with
his beloved wife, Bonnie, who was by his side for five decades.
