Robert Charles Matt Sr, 53, passed away in Ronan, MT on January 27, 2024. He was born March 13, 1970 in St. Ignatius, MT.
Robert will no longer be making his leather holsters, forming those perfect knife handles, cutting and hauling loads of firewood, nor able to lend a helping hand to friends or strangers with mechanicing, hvac, plumbing, or any of his other many talents.
You see, he received an offer that he just could not refuse. Which is his ability to finally see his Dad again, the late Basil Matt, after missing him dearly for 42 years; and his mother, Darlene Courchane Matt will greet him as well!
After being married to the love of his life, and childhood sweethearts from the age of 11, Sharlena Marie Hammond Matt, and making sure that she as going to be okay, until she too could meet him at this greatest of destination later on. As he said, while holding her hand, "I'm not leaving you, I'm just breaking the trail for you." He assured her that he would be looking over her and his children: Basil William Matt, Robert Charles Matt Jr, and Ashley Rose Matt; and keeping a close eye on his pride and joy grandchildren: Nirada Rawhide Hunter Matt, Destiny Sharlynn Marie Courville, and Gunner Robert William Courville. He was excited to get to hold his youngest granddaughter: Ayasha Alessandra Darlene Courville who took the journey before him barley a month old in November of 2011.
Robert has earned this great, and once in a lifetime, trip to his Ancestors ,after raising his family which he started out taking care of, at the age of 16; for always being an honorable man and fighting nobly with great bravery for 3 years against the monster, known to many as cancer.
We, his family, have been left with very detailed instructions on how he wants each step of his celebration of life preformed. He always appreciated perfection, and had a great eye for detail; so it is with great honor that we set out to do exactly as we have been told.
He will be cremated, with his favorite clothing, which will include his cowboy boots, his black hat, and sunglasses.
The precise location where he will be set free has been described in great detail. There will be a Celebration of Life held at his home, where Sharlena will be cooking his favorite foods, and serving these to his favorite people! Which will announce when all is in place.
He was surrounded by his family with many tears, and the greatest love as we seen him off on the first step of his journey. His son, Basil putting it best, "Dad was there to greet me as soon as I entered this world, and I was there to see Dad off when he left it. Travel well Dad. I will aspire to be a man as great as you." (Believe me, Basil is well on his way to being exactly that. Making his Dad SO Proud!)
His parents, also Bill & Diana Hammond, sister: Crystal Hammond Green; granddaughter: Destiny; nephew: Mike Mitchel; son: Basil Matt; and other course his sweetheart Sharlena all held hands, held him, and each other as we watched greatest departure from this plane.
Surrounded by LOVE, TEARS, and ADMIRATION! You will be remembered and greatly missed.
Later Later Honey!
This time was good, and next time will be better!
