Stanley Joseph Stillsmoking, a descendant of Mountain Chief, Black Weasel, Short Robe, Boy and Bird Rattler well-known chiefs of the Blackfeet Conference, 82 yrs., passed away on March 17, 2022, in Walla Walla, Washington and went to the Big Sandy (aka Heaven) to meet his family.
Born May 15, 1939, at the family homestead in Durham, Montana,
he was the 5th child of Michael William (aka Billy Black Weasel)
Stillsmoking, Sr. and Mary Mabel (Boy) Stillsmoking. He served in the
U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Rangers Screaming Eagles Paratroopers Unit
for several years, was a champion Saddle Bronc Rider, enjoyed playing
the guitar and loved displaying his artwork in his apartment.
He has one surviving brother, Michael William (Jay) Stillsmoking, Jr.
(Dr. Kristina Stillsmoking) of Rock Springs, WY, numerous loving nieces
and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters: Wilma Little
Mustache and Margaret Bell; and 5 brothers: Leslie Dean, Robert, Wesley, Wilford, Benjamin.
All services will be in Browning, Montana:
*Evening Wake Services will be held Tuesday, April 5 and Wednesday,
April 6, 2022, at Glacier Homes Community Center. Rosary will be
conducted on Wednesday, April 6 at 7:00 pm (open microphone for
sharing).
*Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 7, 2022, 11:00 am at the
Little Flower Catholic Church.
*He will be laid to rest at the Stillsmoking Cemetery in Durham, Montana.
