Browning - Murray Lee Harwood, "Sticks", 77, of Browning passed away surrounded by his family at Kalispell Regional Health Center on February 2, 2018. Born December 14, 1940 in Browning, Montana to Paul B. Harwood and Laura "Ticky" Swingley, he was a member of the Blackfeet Tribe. A well-known basketball star across Indian Country and the Pacific Northwest, he was a hero to many.

Murray had a long career as a telephone installer in California before returning back home to Browning in 1992. He enjoyed serving up his customers at the Warbonnet and Blondie's and developed many friendships along the way. Murray held several records for his high point games, once tried out for the Los Angeles Lakers, and was most proud of being inducted into the Montana Indian Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014. A lover of banana cream pie, he enjoyed basketball, horseracing, playing cards, shooting the "bull" with his many friends and giving his "reports" of all the casino winnings.

Murray was preceded in death by his mother and father, brothers Merlin "Jockey" Harwood and Kenny "Coco" Harwood and sister, Snooky Schlenske.

Murray is survived by his children Mary Harwood Bird Rattler (Merlin) of Seville, Lesa Harwood Evers of Helena, and Randy Harwood (Sandy) of Browning. He was a proud grandpa to Carl Harwood, Jeremiah Harwood of Browning, both of Browning, Derek Gray of Seville, and Elliott Evers of Boston. He was a great grandfather to Kalise Vielle, Rylynn Harwood and Katie Harwood, all of Browning and Mina Gray of Seville. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and a long list of friends.

Services will be held Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 11:00 am at Four Winds Assembly of God in Browning. Burial will follow in Willow Creek Cemetery. The wake is currently being held at the Glacier Homes Community Center.
